The firefighter career is really glitchy, overall. I haven't received any of the special firefighter items for my firefighting founder, either. Aurora Skies seems especially glitchy when it comes to fires, according to people who play in that world. You could always try this:
"Maybe it was a coincidence or luck, but it's worth a shot for those of you who are still having trouble and are willing to use mods. My suggestion is, the next time a small fire comes up, first go into map view and see which house it is. Then, if the emergency disappears when you try to respond to it, use "reset lot." (Click on building, then NRaas>Master Controller>Reset Lot.) It won't help with the current failed emergency, but hopefully the next time there's an emergency there, it'll work."
Another tip is to not click "respond to emergency" but rather look up the fire on the map and click the emergency symbol on that particular lot. That seems to work better.
Thanks for the tip! I did manage to find a way to go around the glitch last time I played by sending my sim to the lot before responding to the emergency, but it's slower and I don't know if it will work every time or not. I'll keep the lot reset in mind.
