To all my f-list and anyone else who stumbles upon this post...

And just because it's the Holidays, there's a fic here.

Fic: Not Okay
Genre: non-angst, non-sappy post 6nin KAT-TUN Akame (Phew! That's a mouthful)
Word Count: 700
Summary:  Jin and Kazuya chance upon each other in the car park.
A/N: Just needed to get this out of the way.

Not Okay

Fate has always been fond of playing tricks on Akanishi Jin. On his way to his car after his first visit to the jimusho building in months, he sees him. Halfway between the service elevator and his car, behind one of the huge concrete columns crouched Kamenashi Kazuya, smoking. As if sensing his presence, Kazuya immediately turns his head and they lock eyes.

Kazuya slides up the column until he has stretched to his full height. Jin braces himself for the worst possible scenario. If the emaciated Kazuya of the good old days could pack a mean punch, he can only dread what a beefed up Kazuya is capable of.

Jin tempers his steps, trying to walk as casually as he can. “Kamenashi,” he greets with a curt nod as he nears. Kazuya just looks at him, eyes blank. Jin takes a deep breath. Cold-shouldering has always been Kazuya's forte.

A few steps later though, the snub niggles at Jin. He stops on his tracks and turns. Kazuya is still looking at him and Jin feels the familiar need to piss off Kazuya. “You're fat,” he spits out. He waits and for a moment there is no reaction.

Jin is completely surprised when, in the next second, Kazuya blurts a laugh. More so because it is a real laugh borne of mirth that ended with an honest-to-goodness smile. Jin stands there weighing on whether or not he should be glad or scared.

Kazuya takes a drag on his cigarette and continues to smile as he exhales. Emboldened, Jin backtracks until he is right in front of Kazuya. “What the hell are you smoking?” he asks and takes the lighted stick from Kazuya.

“I'm not the one into that, Akanishi,” Kazuya finally says. “Or is it, Aquaneesha?” he adds then laughs some more.

“Fuck you, Kamenashi,” Jin says, suddenly embarrassed that Kazuya, apparently, has seen his cringe-worthy interview.

“What the hell did you snort before that interview?”

“I was tired,” Jin says because explaining himself to Kazuya is an impulse. He takes a long deep drag on the cigarette as he stares at Kazuya who doesn't  even blink when he blows out the smoke into Kazuya's face and just stares right back at him, still smiling. And it hits Jin. Kazuya watched his interview. Kazuya is talking to him. “Were you waiting for me, Kamenashi?” he  asks.

“That will be a cold day in hell,” Kazuya replies. Jin cocks his head, not believing. “But it's freezing in here and this is the jimusho building," Kazuya says, eyes glinting, "so I guess it is a cold day in hell.”

Jin twitches his lips in a hesitant smile. They've done this way too many times. They'd fight and hate each other's guts and not talk for ages. Then they'd chance upon each other in some random place, exchange insults and, just like that, the impasse would be broken. But Jin knows it is different this time so he asks, “Are we okay?”

Kazuya's left eyebrow arches. “Does it matter?”

“You saw my interview. World peace is my crusade," says Jin in jest and is rewarded when Kazuya laughs again.

When the laughter dies down, Kazuya says, “No.”  He snatches the cigarette back from Jin. “I still think you're a douche.” Once again, he does the puffing and exhaling while smiling.

“Well, you're still a cold sonnafabitch,” Jin retorts. “So, we're not okay?”

“Nope.”

Jin nods. Kazuya hasn't changed. Despite everything, they haven't changed. Jin smiles before he  turns and walks away. A few steps after he stops and turns. Kazuya is still looking at him. “Did you celebrate Christmas?” Jin asks. Kazuya shakes his head. “Wanna celebrate it?”

“Are you paying?” Kazuya asks.

“We'll put it on Johnny's tab,” Jin says.

Kazuya breaks into a wide grin. He crushes the cigarette on the sole of his boot before flicking it away. As he walks past Jin, he says, “Just as as long as we're not okay.”

“Yeah,” Jin says, following Kazuya. “I miss you, too.”
