I did'nt think any of the VAs were bad, I liked Meowth the most actually... I liked how the new James VA is trying to sound like the old one, IMHO, his acting only gets better when he is, otherwise it lacks emotion..He needs to work on his crying and yelling :P Maybe you just went into it thinking you would hate the voices and sort of fofilled it...
Although, then again, I still have very fond memories of the Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon. So maybe hearing the same VAs again just made me realize how bad they all were.
And come to think of it, I had a very similar reaction to the Mastermind special.
The only difference is, this time the VAs this time sound slightly better (and Brock's VA sounds MUCH better), because they've had a lot of practice.
However, the same thing cannot be said for Ash's VA because they replaced the one from the Mastermind special, unforunately. And I wonder if that's why her Ash voice sounds so bad and she cannot seem to get Ash's voice right? I mean, in my opinion, she doesn't seem to be imitating Ash's original voice at all, and she seems to be doing her own thing and putting her own spin on his voice (which I think is horrible, because Ash has an already established voice - one that I love, which can really only be done by Veronica Taylor since she's the original VA).
I absolutely agree with you on everything. I may sound pessimistic with this, but.. I just dont think the new Ash will improve.
And I have to say I admire your patience and ability to watch more episodes before making your decision whether or not to watch! I made my decision after only one episode >.> I wont be watching season 9, not with those voices, anyway.
Yeah, I know exactly what you mean, ashketchumgirl.
Originally, I was only going to watch 2 or 3 episodes of season 9.
But, since the new Brock VA seemed to get VERY close to Brock's original voice, I am hoping that maybe, just maybe Ash's new VA could do the same. If she could just get as close to Veronica Taylor's Ash voice as possible, I would be able to watch season 9.
And yes, I agree with you. I don't think the new Ash VA will improve either. I just have this feeling that it's not going to happen, especially with the kind of voice that she wants to give Ash (ugh, I HATE that voice! It's awful, and it doesn't fit Ash's personality at all!). So, overall, I fear that she won't get any better, because Veronica's Ash voice is very unique. So there's no way she will ever be able to get the same exact voice which I love so much.

I do agree with you on Brock's voice. I thought that he did a good job trying to sound like the original. Very close.
Meowth's voice just threw me off. I didn't like it. And seeing as how he's my favorite character, I might just stop watching if he never sounds like - or gets as close to - the old voice.
I think the voices were great. And James in 'Sweet Baby James' was amazing, he captured the emotion so well in that episode. And his Nanny and Pop-pop had wonderful voices, it was so got not to hear generic voices for older characters for a change.
