Wally Moon's Summer Baseball Camp (or was it Wally Moon's Baseball Summer Camp?), in the hills east of Covina, California, 1962. Look at the size of that mitt! It's bigger than my whole chest!

I also attended Wally Moon's summer camp in 1962. I was just turning 11 in August and I was on Marty's Maulers. I was lucky enough to win M.V.P, and was given a round patch-white with blue lettering in the shape of a baseball. It says "Wally Moon's Summer Baseball Camp Award". I have it hanging in the hallway along with alot of other Baseball stuff. I played little league in West Covina for Perino's Liquor.....our team was the Pirates. I remember at camp, just inside the door to the dorm there was a huge soda machine. A giant ice cold soda was a dime. This sucker must have held 200 bottles of pop! One day someone put a dime in it, and every soda in the machine came out..........it was hot and right after the daily game........every kid in the dorm chugged them as fast as they could........it was soda heaven for a day.................a great memory only 48 years old, Best to all, Chris.
I do remember the hike...........it was "HOT"............I made a mistake before,......I played for Perino's, but my team was The Indians not Pirates-......just found the team picture the other day.........I'll post it soon...............
If you download the original-size picture, in the extreme foreground, you can see a small portion of the field where our ball diamonds would soon be built, and just this side of the trees, you can just make out the beginning of the path up that steep, wooded slope. Isn't that neat?
Amazed to find the camp on the internet. I went there every day it was open during the summer for three years. I worked on the fields to help pay my tuition. I remember the Coke machine, watching films, going to Dodger Stadium and coach Marty Karow. Bill Mark (Markowski)

Incidentally, here is an aerial photo I found recently that shows the Baptist Seminary in 1960.

And oh, that Coke machine. A life-saver on a hot day. A soda never tasted or felt so good going down the hatch.
