The Spring Street diagonal

Ever since I started collecting postcards of old Los Angeles, this 90-year-old view of the north end of Spring Street has been one of my "holy grails." One reason for its desirability is that it features the old Post Office that first got me interested in pre-WWII Los Angeles. This post is confusing to me.

The LA Times building is between 1st and Second, Spring and Broadway. Spring next to the LA Times building is where it's always been -- I'd assume anyway because that building is the old building and it faces Spring, has an entrance there and the elevators align with the entrance.

The freeway cuts through there at some point but I haven't paid a lot of attention to it and how it intersects the other streets....

At what point do you think Spring started curving?

Also, I just thought of this...

There is a very old building that used to be a Post Office that is now serving as an indoor "swap meet" kind of store -- I think it might be on Spring or Broadway -- but again, I didn't really pay attention to that when I walked through the building. ???? I wonder if it is related to the Post Office in your postcard?
