The demon Toth is also a really interesting demon, and i actually would have been interested in seeing it's original plan. ( Buffy being split)
I think in the context of the show that would have been unnecessary, as Buffy has two dopplegangers: Buffybot and The First as Buffy, as well as more bespelled altered selves (Beer Bad, SB, TR, Him) and two Au world Buffys - The Wish and Normal Again.
The Replacement is Xander's second doppleganger (MatureXander) on the show, the first being VampXander (EvilXander), two major facets of his personality - and yes this IS a shameless plug for my meta on Xander's dopplegangers. http://red-satin-doll.livejournal.com/5173.html
