I don't like my intelligence insulted either and useless commentary kinda spoils the experience I agree. Re smoking on the kerb: I'd be pissed off if I had risked a fine too, I don't smoke anymore but the footpath seems like a fairly harmless place to light one up even if I do say so myself, it's not in a confined area!!! I caught the opening ceremony on TV. Just didn't want to pay so much and now I sort of wishes I had been in the city by the Yarra instead of comfortably at home to see the floats and fireworks. As for the commentators, I tend to filter their voices out...whenever possible. Its just a drone to me :P

see i agree with you, i am a non-smoker and i was on a train going through richmond station the other morning and there were plenty of connex staff on the platform (as in the guys that check your tickets and can give fines) and there was someone at the back of them smoking under cover and they just stood there, talk abotu inconsistant! also i saw a guy at oakleigh jump on the train and stand in the door way still smoking! i don't mind smokers that much, but if there are laws in place they should abide by them, but on the same token if connex are going to put on fines they should be consistant and do it in obvious places ie: places that are stops and under cover.
exactly. I nearly got fined outside the station on a public footpath, yet on hte way home monday night, there was a group of drunk guys smoking dope and drinking and all te met cop said to them was thay they shouldn't smoke in the carriage. They kept on drinking and just opened the door between carriages and stuck their heads out to smoke.
