[IC Scene w/Vince]

"Puppy!" Vince greeted the moment he stepped inside Ash’s apartment. The small, fluffy Pomeranian tapped its front paws on the ground over and over, excited little tippy taps as the two men slipped inside Ash's apartment after closing up at their retail job. Supplementing their income working at an alt clothing store was an unfortunate necessity ( Read more... )

Contrary to what most people did, Corbin was not in the habit of simply jumping to grab his phone when it chimed. He liked to think himself better than lunging at the first sound of attention from other people or social media...the latter wasn't even remotely the case and he'd spend endless hours scrolling through it with a vague lust for random gossip but that was such a dirty little secret that did not fit the image of being above so many things that he attempted to cultivate ( ... )

After dinner had arrived, and Ash still hadn't heard from Corbin, impatience began to set in, then doubt -- maybe he wasn't willing to talk about this? Vince was flipping channels on the television, but trying to watch the TV wasn't distracting Ash at all, so he retreated to the kitchen to snag a couple beers from the fridge. When Vince declined one, Ash kept them both for himself.

When his phone chimed, unlike Corbin he glanced at it immediately, the words conjuring up bittersweet memories of hot sand, Lacroix's back nestled up against his chest and the sun warming their skin.

And Corbin had been quite perceptive about the alcohol, hadn't he?

Getting there, came Ash's reply, and he downed the rest of that second beer, then pushed himself off the couch to go to the kitchen to fetch one more. He paused at the refrigerator door to send another text to Corbin.

I went to the beach with him once. Did I tell you? Well, no point in keeping anything a secret now, was it? Hector had scheduled Lacroix tours in catacombs, but they'd made ( ... )

Wonderful, this is how I planned to spend my evening.

Babysitting an insecure human trying to navigate the choppy waters of forlorn emotions; honest did Asher think he was going to be that helpful in the situation when it came to that? He had an outward emotional range himself of dead to the world, disinterested or varying degrees of annoyed to pissed off; which was to say nothing for things he actually felt or expressed when he was caught up in some exciting project.
But very few people ever saw that; he had that whole...lofty vampire image to uphold.

A yawn from the fluff panda-colored dog lazing on the end of his couch ruined that image slightly but Corbin opted to ignore details that didn't fit too well into his plans. Besides, Lestat did a reasonable job of guarding him during the day, or so he lied to himself when he knew Melvin was a bigger threat than that puffball canine.

I'm not entirely dense, nor as trusting of stubborn kids with teenage hormones as Hector is; I'm sure there's been more occasions than that when you' ( ... )

It wasn't that Ash thought Corbin would be good at talking to him about this, but... really, who else could possibly understand the whole situation better than Corbin? Some part of him was just so desperate for answers in this moment that he couldn't help but try to reach out. He'd already gotten sympathy from Vince, he wasn't necessarily looking for more of that -- no, he just wanted answers that could make him understand why he had to let go ( ... )
