Part of Ash still couldn’t believe this was really happening -- Lacroix was sneaking out of Castle Styles? Really? Just to see him? It made him feel weirdly important and warm-fuzzy inside, but that just drove home the obvious fact that he was crushing pretty hard on Lacroix, yes. It was a sad fact of nature that Lacroix had ended up sneaking out of a few places over the course of his life; but none carried the same weight as the utterly foolish venture he was attempting that day. And in broad daylight no less; he felt as if he were just asking for trouble ( ... )

Those familiar strappy pants and the bright colors on that shirt made it difficult to miss Lacroix; Ash felt a tiny little rush of excitement seeing him here, because he didn’t think this would ever happen until he’d endeared himself to Hector. But he wasn’t complaining, definitely not; he immediately crossed the short distance over to stand with Lacroix ( ... )

Nervous, obviously, since he jumped when he heard his name; that name supposed to be long dead so the surreal sound of it caught him off guard. And that was just what the period before life as he knew it now was; surreal. Even though things should have rightly felt more like an odd dream now given how bizarre the everyday events had become he still felt as though he were finally waking up from the hazy dream that had been his previous life instead ( ... )

It wasn’t hard for Ash to see that Lacroix wasn’t feeling altogether well; that made him all the more determined to make him relax, to show him that it would be all right without Hector for a little bit, that nothing bad would happen. All that was waiting upstairs was a comfy couch and a big TV and a way-too-fluffy dog; nothing scary, nothing that should arouse any worry in Lacroix.

“Let’s go upstairs,” Ash suggested, giving a little nod toward the elevators. The elevators had absolutely no kind of sophisticated security on them like the ones at Lacroix’s home did, no fingerprint scanners; clearly this building was far less high-tech than Castle Styles was ( ... )
