The work week had more than its usual share of stress, but I went to shul Saturday and had a great conversation with the Israeli-born woman L. Enjoyed last week's sunny weather and had a nice walk-to-work commute on Wednesday ( Read more... )

I'm curious about your choice to run your spreadsheet extending to the right, rather than down with a row for every date and a column for each category.

That was one of a number of schemes I considered. I went with this format because it lets me see my totals both by day and by category, on a week-to-week basis. Each week gets a new tab in the spreadsheet; it's modeled after the format I've been using successfully for my daily ledger for over a year.

Ah, interesting. I worked on a spreadsheet for someone for calculating payroll stuff.. I troubled for a while over the question of how to arrange the dates n weeks n stuff... In that case, I had data for each week (pay period) for each position (category), and I put a repeating row that summed up each category for that period. It was a little wonky with every nth row being totals, but it ended up working great and did what it was supposed to.

What do you keep in your daily ledger - is it financial tracking?

You mean like so-and-so many dollars for groceries, rent, utilities, books etc? I haven't started doing that yet, but I have thought about it. Right now it's mainly just for getting an accurate figure for my available bank balance. It's such a feeling of freedom! And so satisfying when all the numbers add up just right!
