Torchwood Fic: You Never Forget

Jan 16, 2009 03:18

All right, so here's the fic, for those of you brave enough to say you'd like to read it. I hope I haven't made any major cultural or historical stuff-ups in the translation of some things that I know fairly well in Australia to a British context. I'm not sure what this fic says about me. Possibly that I'm an insatiable history nerd. It's also the ( Read more... )

This was a lovely, contemplative piece-- I love the way that Ianto is so accepting of whatever Jack's willing to offer.

Just one small typo:
But that’s al right;
That should either be "all right" or "alright".

I hope you write more Torchwood!

Thank you so much, on both counts - the comment and the typo. I'm very glad you enjoyed it, especially that you liked Ianto's attitude to Jack opening up; I gave that a lot of thought!

Oh that was a gorgeous, thoughtful piece that showed a side of Jack that isn't seen particually often. Thank you for sharing. And write more Torchwood noa? :P

Thanks so much - that's what I was aiming for. And I think that should I find myself with any plot ideas in the future, more fic would follow!

Hee, thanks! I made it specially. I figured this fic needed a Jack-in-WW1-uniform icon! (And yes, I did go look up British army uniforms to double-check that's captain's insignia ... :p)

Oh honey, this is fabulous! *dabs at eyes* You've such a wonderful grasp of Our Boys. Thank you.

(I don't know if I told you, but much of my family was in the US Military; my father was a veteran of the US Air Force and served in Viet Nam, as did several uncles. We've lost family over the years in various wars and police actions around the world, including WWI. As such, this really struck a chord with me.

My youngest brother is a Marine, and he is also gay, which is another chord your story struck. Times are different now, but the issue remains. This fic means a lot to me on several levels. Thank you so much for writing it and putting so much thought into it - it really shows.)

I'm SO glad I friended you, and that you friended me back. ♥

I am so glad! I'm glad the boys seemed right to you, and that all the thought I put into it came through - I spent a lot of time researching!

And I'm especially glad that it struck a chord with you as someone with family in the military. That's really the best I could have hoped for, that it would ring true to someone who's lost family members and had family members serve in war.

♥ I'm so glad you friended me, too.

Thanks so much for your comment. And thank you for the recommendation! I'll make sure to read it!

I love your icon! It combines three of my great loves - First World War history, Torchwood, and Latin!

One of the things I love about Ianto is the way he doesn't demand answers from Jack. He'll willingly listen to anything Jack chooses to tell him, but he won't badger him. You've captured that beautifully, along with Ianto's lack of jealousy towards Jack's past loves. He understands that Jack will love again and again, because he'll be alive a very long time.

I like looking into Jack's past a bit, despite it being such a grim and horrifying period. Jack has seen so much, but it hasn't inured him to the horrors he sees, he still feels everything deeply.
