God-dammit, I was two books away from finishing a VERY long entry about the past week and the books I've read, but now I'm pissed at LJ and you're getting the cliff notes.  Sorry, but this shit is pissing me off.

Life here is moving very fast.  Carousel is over for me and I"ve moved on to I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change!  It's cute and funny ( Read more... )

Personally, I just picked up a Chuck Palahniuk novel of all true stories that he wrote in between books. I've only read a couple stories but its good so far, he's a very dependable writer. I think the book is called Stranger than Fiction.

Monday night, hopefully we can squeeze in a Firefly night, if you want. We try and make Firefly at least once a week, and we're nearing the end of the series.

Hopefully I'll see you soon!

that was the first book of his that I read. it's very funny and more than a bit odd. you seem like a liberal lady to me, so you'll probably enjoy its weirdness as much as i did.

also, if you haven't heard, it's being made into a movie. http://imdb.com/title/tt0439289/ pretty stellar cast there.

mmm...books.

I'm impressed with the nice list you've got going on there. I'm always disappointed with myself and the lack of reading for pleasure that I get to do. Hopefully in the fall I'll really be able to step it up. Also, I'm always interested in suggestions for good authors to read, so I'll definitely check some of these guys out.

I did, however, just finish Good Omens over 4th of July break. I thought the book was fantastic. I love the style of writing, the characters, and how through them the author's views on society, philosophy, and the world came through. So, I haven't read Gaiman or Pratchett before this and I'm definitely going to read more of both of them.

Anyway, good luck with the new play. Hopefully I'll get a chance to see you soon.

peace!

Stardust is next on my Gaiman-o-than, good to see you dug it and it has all kinds of crazy fantasy stuff going down. Have you read American Gods?

Also, if you dug Catcher in the Rye and have even the slightest idea of the story of Beowulf, you definitely need to read Grendel by John Gardner. It's Catcher in the Rye, only from the POV of a giant monster. It's magical.

Ohh, that sounds really cool. I'll have to check it out.

And yes I read and loved American Gods. I <3 Neil Gaiman. I want to start reading some Pratchett too. I have to start the disc world series. Any suggestions?

Jeff has read more of them than I have. I would definitely suggest reading the first two in the series - The Color of Magic and The Light Fantastic. From there, I think you can pretty much follow the storylines you like. There's a series of books about Rincewind, an inept wizard. I like those the best. There's a series about a group of witches. I'm not a huge fan of them, but Jeff digs them. There's a series about the city guards, which is next on my list to start. There's also a series that follows Death, which is pretty similar to the Death that appears in Good Omens.
