The grocery game was a bust this week.  Last week I tried it without a paper - I just printed some online coupons.  I saved a bit but decided I needed to get the paper.  This week I got the coupons but the list didn't come up until this morning.  i went to the store and almost every item I had a coupon for on the list was out of stock already.  I

I spend around $400 a month on groceries for all of us. I feel like that is high, but I can't seem to lower it much.

When things are out of stock, you can ask for a rain check that will allow you to buy the item at that price for 30 days. The cool thing about that is that you have time to gather up multiple coupons. If you tell me what they are, and I have enough copies to make it worth it, I can send them to you!

thanks for the rain check info. Hopefully I will get into it a little better. $400 a month seems low considering what I spend on 2 of us I have no exact figure but I am guessing that it is more than $500 a month. I have to get that down. I also have to get more organized with my shopping I came home today without 2 things that I need and they were on my list.

Do you use Quicken? If you're serious about saving money, using a money management tool like that can be very useful. I could actually tell you the average that we spend on groceries to the penny, if you wanted, because I track it in Quicken. I've been doing that for years and years and years. I'm a little obsessive about it.

What do you buy that is so expensive?

On closer evaluation there is no way I spend that much on groceries for a month. My bill at the store is normally between $70 and $100 but I didn't go every week when I worked. I was just thinking about the last 2 grocery bills which were actually restocking everything. I have thought about getting quicken but Justin was against it for some reason. Maybe I will look into it again, especially since it is my job to do the shopping.
