LJ habits..

Sometimes I miss posts. I'm not sure why but I'm wondering if it's because of the way I use LJ. I'm not sure about anyone else but I when I log on I scroll down my flist's posts until I come to the first one I can remember seeing. Then I stop there ( Read more... )

Concerning my flist I use LJ the exact same way. But I never save an entry to post it later- I didn't even know that LJ would put a different time stamp on it!

Congratulations on your new week schedule! Goooood decision. I work three days a week- and like you said, less money, but more time. Though I definitely wouldn't say more sanity- look what I am doing with my spare time... *gg* It's really stupid sometimes, I log in to check a certain something, and then I end up 4 hours later remembering I forgot to have breakfast. *sighs*

Hope your movie-experience was fun!

And yes, new episode. You still didn't see the trailer?

But I never save an entry to post it later-

Most of my vid posts (and definitely my picspam posts) I work on and save over time. It took a while to realise I needed to either make a new post (which I normally do) or manually change the date on the entry.

New work schedule is great. But YES! Possibly less sanity...often hours have gone by before I realise time....

The movie was a lot of fun! Great bromance. :D

I've seen the ep now... and I did resist watching the trailer (I'm glad I did!)

I used to always miss a lot of posts as well - because my friends page was so full of all the communities that i watch/join and they make a lot of posts so i would miss posts from friends.

Now, i have placed notifications so that i will always receive my friends entries in my inbox.

Thankyou for linking that post, i love knowing that there is so much stuff that goes into show -such as the background detail- that i don't notice. Show is awesome and clever.

Yay, congrats on cutting down your working hours and i'm glad it's much better for you \0/

Show tomorrow - can't wait!!!!!!

I've thought about setting up notifications on friends posts...maybe I'll do that...

Glad you liked the post. I love that kind of stuff.:)

It really has helped me keep track of my friends posts so if you do decide to set up notifications i hope they help.

LJ: Nope I do the same thing. Though its in my profile I skim through my flist - if I didn't I'd never be able to read/write anything else. I do use tracking more on friends than fic. Especially friends that don't post much just so I won't miss a post.

Personally (so far) I only use the time-stamp if I want to bury a fic (if I'm reposting something) just to spare my flist.

Yay for the extra day off- enjoy it, maybe you'll have time for that Leverage vid sometime in the near future =)

I don't use tracking much..only on comms I mod. I could use it on my flist, but I mostly hope to catch them as I scroll through.

I REALLY hope to make a Leverage vid someday. Maybe with the extra bit of time I'll get the chance...:)

See, I've noticed the exact same thing, and I browse my flist the same way you do. I've also tried making posts with changed timestamps and gotten some really funky results, so I'll be really interested in the comments made here by more informed (and more useful) responders to this post. For that matter, I'm kind of overall confused about how timestamps work on LJ anyway, regarding the time zone thing and the "local time" stamps that wind up on comments, etc.

tl;dr: Time...how does it work?

Time is really weird on LJ I suspect. I've had some funky results too. I've taken to just opening a new post and cutting and pasting anything I've been working on. I'm always curious about how others do stuff here..:)

If you have a paid account you can always use the 'filter' option at the top of the page, set it to 'friends' and just their posts will be shown, of course once you've caught up you go go back to your friends page which will include comm posts as well :D

Actually, even if you have a free account you can filter your Friends list. It's the small drop-down menu next to where it says "You are viewing your Friends page" on the upper navigation strip.

This is how I do it every night. First I filter by friends and make sure I'm not missing anything from anyone, then I filter by comms to see what's going on. If you follow many comms this is the easiest and most time effective way of doing it, IMO.

So you can filter even with an unpaid account, that's good to know as mine runs out in a month :D

I have a paid account, but my girlfriend does not. I checked her LJ right before I posted to make sure :-)
