There were a few things that struck me when watching this ep and a few other things that stood out on re-watch. Though um... fairly random and geeky... *g*
Don't want to burst your bubble or anything, but they filmed from the back seat in the Pilot and Simon Says that I can think of, I've usually thought of it being used when they are in happier times...
Great pictures though and I said it in my journal but there were slews of this episode that needed no dialogue what. so. ever. - everything was painted over their little faces all the way through *smishes them*
Was such a relief to see the air cleared of lies and anger - I'm not holding my breath it will stay that way for long, but there was a maturity about their interactions, the forgiveness and understanding has been a long time coming and very welcome.
Yes - Simon Said was one I remembered but I thought that's cause we needed to see what they were seeing out the windscreen? Weren't they spying on Andy? I remember it being odd there also though. That scene had a really weird quality about it and I'm not sure whether it was because of the way it was filmed or the quality of the film. Or just me. Probably just me... (don't remember the pilot one...)
I'm not holding my breath it will stay that way for long
God - I hope it stays that way for a while. It was so nice not to have to worry about the secrets they keep from each other. Though I wonder how much Sam knows exactly.....
Yep, it was a strange one, I personally felt the camera - for being in the back - was still very close, almost claustrophobic even in a couple of places, wanted to scream about personal space and I was sitting in the living room!
**bites nails** Ack -don't start about Sam remembering, I'll cry - but at least it will be NEW secrets, angst and guilt yes? Because I'm not sure it would be the Winchesters without a good helping of each... hee.
Yeah - lack of personal space for sure.. (though if I could climb in there and ....well, 'nuff said :) )
I'm kinda excited for Sam remembering. I'm hoping for crippling moments of leakage... though Show doesn't really do h/c so no sure what they'll do with this one.
But agreed... NEW stuff to worry about. Which is exciting in itself. :)
Oh yes... I love the idea that his food went cold because he was helping the boys. I really love this shout back to the Weekend episode. (a comment below says that the spoon in the food mirrors Dean's sword in the stone... HAHA!) ... awesome..
I have new appreciation for the sword in the stone scene - I watched it a few times whilst capping these and yeah - Jensen knows how to work it... :D :D
It's adorable that about 70% of the episode could be summarised as:
Sam: *is Sam* Dean: *bounces gleefully*
Just - aww.
Something else that this episode really brought home to me was the value of souls. Balthazar said "Do you have any idea what souls are worth, what power they hold?". I suspect that this refers more to the soul's value to other supernatural beings but to me the value and power of Sam's soul was enormous to Dean. It certainly has healing powers because I can't recall a time (recently) that Dean seemed so happy and at some sort of peace. And obviously worth a lot to Dean also. To die, once again, for Sam (and his soul) speaks volumes of what it is worth to him.
*nods* Sam kept pointing out that this wasn't what Dean did when he came back, or that Dean would need to deal with this if he were in Sam's shoes, which is such a contrast to what he said before - that they were completely different, that he couldn't fathom needing the kinds of things Dean did when he came back. It plays so nicely into what they've been
( ... )
that it's common experience and affection that make it count, rather than blood.
Indeed and I think it's great that the boys have common ground to work on now. Even though Sam doesn't remember his time in hell he knows he's been away for a long time and the effect that would have on Dean (having been through it himself). And Dean knows enough about hell to want to keep Sam safe from ever remembering it.
That that was the test. Not salt, not iron, not a quiz on Sam's habits - you'll just know Sam when you see him
Oh yes. It was immediate wasn't it? His body language, his face, his demeanour... everything spoke "Sam".
The soul less Sam was just too hard & unsatisfying for me to watch.
It was wasn't it? I did struggle but knew there had to be a pay off eventually. I hoped that I could look back in hindsite and appreciate what they were doing. And I can now. Just to have the boys know what each other has been through is more than they had before.
Let's hope it can stay a little positive for a while. <33
I really like your theory. I agree show often does shout outs to the fans. Sometimes I mind (having actual fans on the show and the references to wincest..) and other times I don't - usually with the more subtle ones.
I had a feeling of being up close and personal with them also. We have car scenes so often and it's nice that they put us in the backseat this time.
I think the cas almost!hug was perfect "one for the fans" moments. I think moments of acknowledgment are fine (and sometimes heartwarming) but I'm not sure I like it when they go overboard - like completely tearing down the forth wall.

Hee! Or overly geeky! :)
