"I can make a few things," said Lirael's voice from the kitchen doorway. It was soft, but actually audible, despite the distance. She had her hands clasped behind her back and her head down, but at least her hair wasn't in her face. She'd been out at the library, as usual, and come home for lunch, only to find she wasn't the only one with that idea.

"Or," she added shyly, "I could at home. The things here, I'm really not sure how to use them...."

Conan looked up, embarrassed -- he'd not realised he could be overheard. "Lirael-neechan! Sorry I-- you know how to cook?"

He beamed at Lirael's admission. "That's no problem! I can tell you how to use the oven -- it's easy once you know how! What do you know how to make?"

"I can bake a few kinds of fish... and I can do sausages in a skillet... and rice with any sort of vegetable," Lirael answered shyly, coming a little further into the kitchen. "I made bread once, but I didn't do all of it, just a couple parts. I had kitchen duty regularly, back at home."

Lirael didn't consider herself much of a cook, at all, but she at least sort of knew what she was about in a kitchen. A medieval kitchen, anyhow.

"Fish?"

It's strange -- he'd eaten that everyday back home for at least one meal. It was a staple, second only to rice. But the thought of the taste of it had Conan eagerly opening the fridge door.

There was basic vegetables, staples such as milk, butter, but something like--

"Ah!"

Success!

"We have fish!"
