[ The teenage boy on the screen seems calm enough. He's not panicking or angry or anything. Just thoughtful. When he speaks, his voice is clear but has a soft, quiet tone to it. ]

Talking to people got me thinking. How many people here have saved the world before? Or maybe done something not as dramatic but still very important?

[ There's a pause ( Read more... )

I was part of a group who did. I have never heard of Eewatoh-die or Japan, though.

[And no, she doesn't leave her name. He can see her on the contacts perfectly fine, and even this is a big step for her.]

I didn't think most people would recognize it.

[As text is a little less threatening than something face to face, Lirael even manages to reply!]

My apologies. I couldn't tell how to spell it from how you said it. I'll remember for the future.

You're welcome. Did you, as well?

[Since he asked, it's logical to guess he did, too. Right?]

[ He get it. Text is a little easier than face to face. He learned that playing Innocent Sin Online. Those interactions had come somewhat easier to him than meeting others face to face. ]

understandable if it's a place you've never heard of.
yeah, I did. me and my friends. I couldn't have done it without them.

It was the same for me.

[In perhaps a more literal sense, but still. They'd needed Seven for the binding, and then some....]

So you think people who have saved their world are the ones who were summoned here? Or some of us?

[It does make sense. They might seem more useful, perhaps, or have some trait in common. Or else just were the ones who stood out.]

that's right.
or even if they didn't save the world, I think we all did something important to make them notice us. something useful.
it makes all of this seem almost like an honor, if you can get past the possible inconvenience.

[Exactly as she was thinking. She thinks on that a moment, on her side of the holographic screen, and replies,]

Honor or not, I had a job to do at home. I don't know if it was more important than the job they want us to do here, but I don't know who else could do it at home, either.

I understand. I would feel the same if my job at home wasn't done.
they could have at least asked people if they were busy first.

Yes. Considering how many people I have seen on this contact list, surely they didn't need to pull the people who had good work to do on their own world.

[Strangely enough, the concept of multiple worlds doesn't phase Lirael at all. She's already been thoroughly acquainted with the subject, and it doesn't bother her to think of how many more there might be.]

I hope so, too.

[Not that she finds the people here that unlikable, aside from them simply being there and intimidating, but still.]

Are you hoping to stay?

Then I am glad for you. It is good to have a reason to do something.

[And now she's out of words and isn't sure what else to say. So she leaves it at that and hopes he either is happy with it, or else has something interesting to say, himself.]

thanks. I agree.

[ Nothing much. Just an agreement. They can leave it at that. ]
