I have a bad habit of getting two books out of the library for every one I return. Right now, the (very disparate) collection of books on my nightstand ( Read more... )

Sorry if this is weird (I don't usually crash people's LJs but I'm pretty much avoiding my Calc homework right now and well... that means LJ/NYPL surfing) I just had to tell you that I LOVE Vashti Bunyan! I'm very fond of "Lookaftering."

By the way, I totally have Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead as well as Neil Gaiman (Good Omens) sitting on my desk waiting for me to open them. Completely understand the library issue since I also have the same problem of not being able to return a book without taking like twenty out while I'm there.

Diamond Day is beautiful :)

It's not weird -- FINALLY someone else who loves (wait -- even someone who's heard of) the amazing Vashti Bunyan! I actually haven't heard "Lookaftering" yet, just her first album from like 1970. How does her new one compare?

Yeah, I'm like 10 pages into R&G... and Neil Gaiman is my lover. Seriously, he's fantastic. Good Omens is pretty hilarious, though I loved American Gods and Sandman more.

I think that "Just Another Diamond Day" is my favorite of the two, though lately I've been really listening to songs from "Lookaftering" (like "Lately" which is a great song).

You're right, unfortunately there are very few people who have heard of Vashti:( Everyone should listen to her.

Hah, I know what you mean about returning one book and taking out two! (I've just done that myself!) But, there's really nothing better than reading a good book for the first time, is there?

Cheers!

Yes indeed. And the smell of a book that hasn't been opened for a long long time! I've decided I need to read more obscure scifi because those are always dusty-spined and you can find such delightful paraphernalia between the forgotten pages.

I usually leave things between the pages of books I return, too, and I like to imagine who might find them, and what they might think, and who they might imagine me to be.
