             Okay, I think I have it now.  This is the first chapter, and follows the prologue of De Anima, a novelization of the rpg for the SNES, Mystic Ark.  Have fun.  (Yes, I know I just posted the prologue after this chapter.  So I'm inconsistent.  It's not the worst of all crimes.)

It's always the hot-headed rookies that get the ball rolling. )

Also, I think the narrative lacks necessary descriptions and characterization. I'm not saying you should throw pages of character description on the reader, but there really is very little in the chapter as it is to tell me about the characters or help me relate to them. Description and characterization help make the characters real and relatable and prevent the story from becoming a dull description of events and recital of conversations. If this is a result of you trying to be faithful to the game, I'd suggest you stop trying. As far as I understand the plots of video games aren't usually exactly the pinnacle of literary achievement, and it becomes a lot more apparent when you try to translate them faithfully to another medium. You should invest in (that is, invent) characterization and background about the characters and their world. And you shouldn't be afraid of changing the plot, if you don't want your work to be merely a supplement of the game. Frankly, if the first chapter describes the events of the beginning of the game ( ... )

Never worked on a real fanfic, let alone a novelization. Shows, huh? I was really thrown for a loop, because I didn't know what to keep from the game, what to excise, and I figured, I would first do some pre-planning, like play said scene in the game, research topics on the Internet, then write ( ... )
