Today outdoor work was canceled on account of rain. I pulled The Honor of the Queen from a box in lieu of doing anything useful. I chewed through the Honor Harrington novels in late high school / early college; hopefully my taste in infodumps has since improved. (It's also tempting to make notes about the progression of feminism in the nearly two ( Read more... )

True fact: when I moved, I ditched all my HH novels except On Basilisk Station and The Honor of the Queen. Rereading HotQ inspired me to tackle the one with the shotgun wedding last night. Four books after it should've happened, IMO. I'm wondering if it's even worth posting the rant on feminism, gender roles, childbearing, disability, and convenient excuses. (Do you know what would be awesome? AU where E. didn't get mauled so badly in that aircar accident. Cue femslash.)

I don't blame you for only keeping the first two. I loved the workplace interaction in the first two, and the 7th book has more, and the 5th book has baseball and Andrew LaFollet being cute all over it, but....yeah, series has issues. but, no, the rant probably isn't worth posting because at this point, doesn't everyone on your list know the issues?

as always, the main problem with the series is that I keep reading because I haven't found anything else outside of a couple of anime--that I had actually watched before reading the series--that hit the same buttons.

This link is making the rounds again, so.

(A link to all of Baen's free library CDs. The latest is for Cryoburn, but before that includes the latest Honor Harrington novel.)

Catching up a bit suggests the Special Snowflake issues are even more special. I'm not sure if I should thank you or curse you. :-)

You mean last HH book? I remember reading it but I didn't post about it. I think I got distracted due to Barry Enright starts. Also, not enough Theisman. There's never enough.

A series that I've never touched.

With occasional exceptions I prefer to read real military history as opposed to military SF.

You're missing nothing. Well, a lot of ink-spewing deaths. But mostly nothing.
