Picspam: Garden State - "The Ark and The Abyss"
For picspammy's Challenge #9: Scenes and Sequences.
To be honest, I don't love Garden State. I think it's one of those that you have to be in a very specific mood and mindset to actually enjoy. But, there is one scene that I can watch over and over, no matter when.
It's the one point inthe movie where I feel completely and totally with the characters and I just want to open my heart to them. It's also just beautifully shot and written. So yay! Picspam time!
“I’m continually impressed how each place you bring us continues to be weirder and weirder.”
“What is this place? What is it that you do down here?”
“… But, what they don’t know is, at night, I climb down.”
“So how deep does it go?”
“No one really knows, but I like to pretend it’s infinite.”
“That’s kind of an odd job, guardian of an infinite abyss.”
...
“I suppose it is odd that we live down here like this.”
“We think it’s important.”
“Why? What is it that you think you’re going to find?”
“I guess I just like the idea of discovering something, of doing something that’s completely unique, that’s never been done before.”
“Albert’s Abyss.”
“None of that really matters. I get to be with this person right here and our beautiful baby, and that’s all I need.”
“Good luck exploring the infinite abyss.”
“You too.”
