Up to my usual nonsense.

Invited an SCA friend over this weekend to work on her first medieval-style dress. A couple of weeks ago we went to Fabricland and she found deals on a dark teal blue faux dupioni and a pearl grey tulle for overlay.

I agree about us older people forgetting about what newbies tend to want, even if we had a stage like that ourselves. I'm glad I did have that though- when I think back to that stage I'm reminded of how far I've grown over the years. :)

And I had it, too. While I started off as a 6th century Ostrogoth, my first dress--the one never actually worn--was green taffeta with vivid red, blue, purple, and gold lame trim. Maybe not classic "princess", but definitely based on what my idea of beautiful colours and fabrics were. (This is the dress I now refer to as the "Ostrogothic prom dress.")

I remember your first dress. I think a lot of us were just impressed that you'd sewn your first dress by hand. It may not have been perfect, but boy, the attempt was so much more than an "attempt."
