I've decided that I want to start pursuing photography as a profession. I'm going to be working nights at a bar, (starting off as a cocktail waitress at first, but I'll be training for bar tending) and I'll have countless days to do absolutely nothing with my time. So I thought.. this will complete me. I'll get to do what I love during the day, and ( Read more... )

Define "put together an online portfolio." Are you looking for your own website with good/easy design tools, or a website that hosts portfolios? I think I could help with either.

Also, what type of photography do you love best? Nature/architecture/portraiture/abstract..? I might have some ideas for where/how to market your work.

Well I'm not really sure, entirely. I've never done it before. What do you suggest?

Nature and Portraiture, mainly. Macros are really what I'm best at, but I love it all. I just want to photography. Any and everything.

Do you have AIM? It might be easier to discuss that way. If so, my AIM is: asmonasays

I meant *I just want to photograph*.

I don't ALWAYS sound like a total imbecile.

Okay, here's what you do.

Go to www.modelmayhem.com, and sign up as a photographer. You can upload your pictures there. In your profile, say that right now you're looking to do "TFCD" shots. That means "Time for cd", which means that you work with the models and you provide them a cd with the final images, in return for them signing a release that says you can use their shots in your port. You can search by proximity to your area code as well, and get in touch with models near you. You can also find photographers in your area if you want to have somebody to kind of trail as you learn the industry standards. You can hook up with makeup artists who'd like to build portfolios as well, and take them with you on your shoots.

You have an advantage, models LOVE a female photographer. They're naturally less creepy than a male, and you'll have the versatility of working with somebody who is more at ease.

I second this, if you're into model photography. You'll also get a lot of gross fat photographers who want to pay you to take pictures of them masturbating, so it's kind of a tossup.

ArtWanted.com allows you to create a portfolio; it's very similar to DeviantArt. I think you are allowed a maximum of three images a month for free, or a paid account is $40 a year.... with a lot of perks.

By the way, I've always wondered: what camera body do you shoot with?
