The end result of this was that different users would see a different picture, depending upon what browser they were using. For example, Internet Explorer users (up to IE7, at least) will see the IE logo below; and most other users (Firefox, ( Read more... )

Very strange, since I'm also using FF 3.08 and it all works fire for me. Any interesting add-ons in your setup? What OS are you running it under?
EDIT: Can you email me a screen capture?

Interesting! It makes me wonder if there's any way to make three layers of images. I'm guessing not, since there's not an opacity setting for table backgrounds (or is there?)

There is a way to do multiple layers of images, text, etc. on top of each other; but since it doesn't work reliably in LJ (you get different results depending on whether the code is in a comment, in a post, on your journal page, or on your friends page), I haven't really played with it much or put it into the tool. But if you'd like to see an example, copy this code into the Massive Tool (because it doesn't work in comments at all):

LAYER 1
LAYER 2
LAYER 3
That code will work in IE and in Firefox on any site (including your own web pages) that doesn't strip some or all of the CSS style codes out of the HTML you post. LJ strips some, all, or none of the style codes depending upon the context.
