Although the cold spell seems to have dealt with the insect problem, I'd like to remind anyone who's feeling feverish to come in for an exam-- just because the bugs are gone doesn't mean their effects are. A number of the illnesses we'd expect to see have incubation periods of two weeks or more, so infection is still possible, if less likely ( Read more... )

buggy plot, doctor time, but can't we save everyone, not quite best in the class, billy kaplan, ticks and leeches

We're not exactly sure-- part of why I'm asking is to augment the medical history we've got so far. He's very ill, and the more information we have, the better our chances faster we can figure out what's wrong.

I'm with Karolina and Jamie, we're all from the same world. I'm not super close to Billy, but he's a friend.

Is there anything you can think of that might help us figure out what's wrong with him? In particular, any sort of infections he might be prone to? Others have mentioned that his immune system doesn't work quite as a normal human's would, and any insights you-- or any of your friends-- could offer would be great.

I mean, there was the Legacy Virus that was targeted to mutants, but that's been cured for awhile now. As for other stuff... it's kinda hit or miss depending on what the virus is and what the mutant's abilities are. Mutant immunology isn't exactly my forte.

I understand, and I'm sorry to have to put you on the spot like this. It's an unfortunate circumstance of practicing medicine here; we have to accommodate our usual techniques and tests to account for the differences between worlds.

Can you tell me anything more about this Legacy Virus?

I'm from the same world as he is. What is it you want to ask us?

To start with, any information about his medical history, or anything particular to individuals from your world that we might not know to look at...

Billy's a mutant, meaning he has a gene called the X-gene. That gene gives him special abilities. As for our immune systems, it really depends on the mutant. I...I don't think he has a healing factor or enhanced metabolism. Do you think taking a blood sample from one of us not sick would help? If so I'll offer.

It certainly couldn't hurt, if you're willing.
