Facts and figures, I guess. How many people were displaced in the Midwest vs. how many were displaced in New Orleans. Relative levels of support--how quickly did the State respond? Find out if looting did in fact take place, etc.

How horrible though.

I think people are allowed to make mistakes about what they see as appropriate occasionally. I would just point out that the comparison is with Hurricane Katrina and even if it is being positive about people from the midwest you don't think that's the nicest way to be positive. I don't think detail is as important as attitude here.

Some of the later comments here seem to get it about right.

Bitter voice: Oh, and as someone who's been through a few hurricanes myself, let me know when Iowa's flooding follows 10-12 hours of 100-plus mile-per-hour winds. Have fun sandbagging in *that*, hardy Midwesterners. Look, it's like a tornado! The size of Great Britain!

Slightly less bitter: Must be nice to have levees that actually *work*.
