I saw your journal query on dA but I'd rather talk to you here. If you are deferring CalArts in order to advance your art skills, then I really, strongly suggest going to SCAD. Berkeley is a good school but it's not known for its art department at all. And there's no way you'll learn the kind of practical art stuff you will at SCAD.
Try not to let your parents override you. I know it's hard, but of course, it you not them who's going to school. As for Joseph - a year really isn't that long, and it might even make your relationship stronger, who knows.
Though maybe just go to CalArts right away? I'm not entirely sure why you want to defer.

Deferring is for art skills. :3 My only real reservation with Calarts is that so many go there after going to college already so I think I'd benefit from extra art study years.

Also yay SCAD : O I am also looking into SCAD!Lacoste because of Europe, and mom likes Europe.

Well, personally I think you'd be fine just going right into CalArts, but more practice certainly wouldn't hurt! And if it makes you feel more confident about it, more power to ya. At any rate, SCAD would be awesome. I so wish I had gone there.

And there's a European SCAD? Woah, crazy! That's very neat.

There's a SCAD in LaCoste, France :O From what I understand, people tend to go for a semester's length, which would be perfect for me if I can get it.
