I suspect the series began on the far side of the shark. After all, a pill-popping asshole doctor as hero is rather far fetched.

I would, however, submit that barring that, it has not actually jumped the shark. It did get on the ramp a time or too, but never actually jumped. The closest I can recall would have been the episode 'Caine & Able', S03E02. This was the one where the kid was convinced that he had been abused by aliens. The episode was teased by Fox to look more like 'X-Files' than 'House, MD'. Of course, they merely played with it, but I think that by even going down that road, they found themselves on the shark ramp.

Lucky for us, they pulled back in the nick of time.

Was that Happy Days? I seem to recall Fonzie (sp?) jumping a shark at one point or the other.

It was very definitely Happy Days, and Fonzie jumped a shark on his motorcycle. It was the end of the show - not intended, but actual.
