Musical challenge

On sunday I will be going to a Working Equitation competition with Rowan. During the dressage test you are allowed to have music to accompany you. It will be purely background music (not choreographed like in musical kurs) but I do want it to be suitable music ( Read more... )

It's hard to make suggestions without a better idea of what sort of tempo is suitable for riding. But you might want to look up Mike Oldfield's Ommadawn on youtube. The section I was thinking of starts from around 2:14 in this clip.

Depending on the sound you want, you might get some luck with one of the Planets from Holst's Planet Suite. Each planet has it's own motif, and whilst Mercury/Uranus are likely too short, Neptune and Venus are good for a flowing sound that is not overpowering.

(Mars will probably be too overpowering, Jupiter too "bouncy", and Saturn too grandiose.)
