The NY Times reports:
KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) -- A veteran Sherpa guide (Apa Sherpa) scaled Mount Everest for a record 17th time Wednesday, beating his own previous record, mountaineering officials said.

Go Sherpas! I'm glad Tenzing Norgay at least has some public monuments named after him, but they are in Siliguri (not the highest profile place on earth).

Saw that on IMAX when it first came out; and read the book too! Simply awesome.
btw, one of the Sherpa support staff for "Into Thin Air" was also a Sherpa leader of our group when we went to Kailash Manasarovar last year! :-)) Wonderful folks!
