As an American fan (with rudimentary Japanese ability), it's been interesting to see the contrast between Champloo fandom and Bebop fandom. Both series from the same creator, and yet the fanbases are so different.

Bebop fandom was like a big international lovefest - there was even a Japanese fansite devoted to examining the English dubbed version. The fan materials seemed to gravitate heavily towards humor, with a minor yaoi streak.

Champloo fandom has been a lot more closed-off, at least in my experience. Also, when I perused the Winter 2004 Comiket catalog, I was expecting tons of Champloo comedy books, but it was 100% yaoi. (lol)

FYI I was not a fan of Bebop... And I was never into yaoi UNTIL coming across Jin and Mugen... lol

I can tell you one thing. SC has an English dub that I can totally approve (=any Japanese fan can be proud of), which is saying a LOT. (Even though I have a strong aversion for scanlations no matter how good the quality of translation...)

Agreed! I'd love to see more bondadge stuff in a classic Japanese style (rope...). I've seen some leather strip and ball gag illustrations of Mugen, but I, for one, would die to see him all hog tied and helpless. *sqeal*

lol That would definitely be hot. Jin always seemed too reserved to let himself be subjected to much bondage. Mugen on the other hand seems to love the rough and tough things.

Hee! I always imagined that Jin probably has no butt as well, while Mugen probably has a nice round tight butt which would be great for spanking. XD Naughteh!
