Please don't do too much freaking out quite yet, ok? I have one (1!) gray hair that grows on my head and have asked the girl who colors my hair if there are others, and she assures me there are not. Hold out hope that this one is errant and doesn't warrant anymore time than what you've already spent worrying about it.

Really, just the one?! How odd. Makes you think about what happened to it, what we may have done wrong to that single strand while the rest flourish? But, OK, for now, I'll just wonder instead of worry.

My mother got a gray forelock very prematurely (like at 16), and I was on the look-out throughout my teenage years. Instead, all I've gotten is a tiny "patch" (it's not even a patch, it's like 8 or 10 hairs, spread over a small area) of gray near my crown, easily hidden by my hair growth pattern and persisting for more than 10 years now without expanding.

Don't panic.

How interesting! I know next to nothing about hair growth patterns and geneology and the like, but these comments sure do make me want to pick up a book or research article.

Off-topic, Lorelaiiiiiiiiii! We've been mainlining Gilmore Girls (I bought all seven seasons before leaving, and even the husband is into it) for the past two months. It's likely the thing that's kept the homesickness at bay - I watched the series through ABC Family reruns through the course of 2007.

Baby, I've had a collection of gray hairs at my left temple since high school. Super noticeable and kind of a drag, thanks to my dark hair. Trust me, you've got a while before you'll need to dye your hair for any reason besides possibly wanting to be blonde again. And when the day comes, it won't make you old. Even being all responsible and married, you're one of the most youthful people I know. ♥

Heh, I never went blonde the first time! I'll just stick with what I've got, roots are ugly and take time to grow out, except maybe the occasional Halloween (but even then only temporary dyes! Maybe wigs!)

Aaw, thanks, hon. How I became the responsible friend is a mystery to everyone, but especially me.
