I don't know if you've been reading my Daily Meditations (that haven't been so "daily"), but someone leaves me nasty messages on it from time to time. The last two have had them, and I normally just delete them after getting a good chuckle out of them (they clearly don't know what they're talking about). Continue to post publicly and either disable comments to these in particular, or make your journal a "screened comments" journal. You will still see the comments, but we won't and you can delete them as usual. It's not perfect, but hateful people don't just go away. It often takes time and a lot of silence on your part to bore them.

This has been going on for more than a couple of years now, I think. I used to just delete them, but decided to share this particularly smarmy one.

We ended up disabling our anonymous comments for similar reasons. Not nice but hey :-( Better than reading upsettingly stupid comments. Deleting them doesn't work for us as we of course have to read them and then get upset even though they are patently dumb ( ... )

i´m sorry you need to deal with that kind of stuff! I would disable anonymous comments. I created free Ljs for a few friends that only want to read my Lj and sent them the name and PW, so they just have to sign in once and safe the settings and then they can always read my Lj, they don´t use their Lj of course, it´s just to give them access to read mine.

Obviously there is a certain group of people who never bother to get their facts straight...they just see you are on some kind of government benefit and think OMG LEECHES! Not even realising that Bear works his butt off and pays taxes and you worked and paid taxes and now you are getting what you PAID for. I think it was totally unreasonable for the government to put that taxation/repayment stipulation on their 'economic stimulus' payment. That was just 'robbing Peter to pay Paul' and now all of those people are worse off than they started ( ... )
