This website is really wonderful if you'd like to read about Appalachian things. I wish that mine was more like Tipper's, but I simply cannot possibly write things about the area when I NEVER LEAVE HOME ( Read more... )

I love it, as it is my new heritage. Much like Spain is yours. We've lived here for coming on seven years.

Donna, that icon is BEAUTIFUL and could have been taken cross the street from me! Where did you get it? Very Appalachian! Could I snag it from you?

Of course you can have the icon, Kathryn!
It's one of my oldest ones and I don't remember where I got it. I assume it was from an icon community but I don't seem to have any credit for it anywhere.

Help yourself!

I know, I've loved this blog for a long time and from time to time I have to tell folks about it here in my journal. This is my NEW heritage. We've lived here for coming on seven years and it's home.

Stan and I would always put a blue grass CD in the player when we drove through the Appalachians. Such a pretty part of the U.S. and some very nice people.
I've always wished I could afford the beautiful handmade quilts I saw everywhere.

I learned to quilt, living here. Self-taught though. Yesterday I was a part of a quilt show, and my quilts blended right in with women who've been quilting for years and years. I wish I could afford some of the old quilts that are in this region, but they always get snapped up before I can get them!

I love it here, D., it is so beautiful. Spring is absolutely STUNNING here. I love it that you put the bluegrass CD in when you drove through here! Ever go near Bluefield, WV or VA? (town on the border) We don't live too far away from there.

We're usually on I-64 when we go through W.VA. but we've been able to take some state hwys through the Appalachians and those are usually twisty and fun.
(I just looked up Blufield in the atlas)

My mom taught herself how to quilt and I've got a cherished one she made for me.
