Appalachian Vocabulary #1

Oh, I love Big Stone Gap too... our area is so similar except our mountains aren't as spread out, much closer here.

Hee - right over here we use addled too - 'that fall fair addled his brain' - and we would 'egg someone on', also we 'aim to do things' as well!

The original settlers of this area were Scots and Irish. So I'm not surprised that you'd have those in your vocabulary! The music is very Celtic sounding, too.

From Boston, Massachusetts I have heard the following words used in my own neighborhoods and use them myself:
addled
egg on
aim to

I think they must be pretty common, at least on the East Coast.

Heard everything on the list except the two you mentioned. It might be regional with them.
