My suggestion.. Don't panic! You aren't a superhero artist! And yet you were chosen for this project anyway! Which means whatever you can pull together, it will be enough! They probably aren't looking for absolute artistic perfection, as the main thing is gonna be their awesome catch phrase. Also, there is nothing to be ashamed from copying poses, as the whole superhero this is all the same poses and the same body with different heads.. Copy away! This is consummerism, not fine art! Just relax and get the job done, then go back to Malia head shots to get it out of your system!
Why not just get a load of normal comic images up and look at how they did them? Maybe even copy a few, just copying probably will help you understand how they did the lineart a smidge.
Sounds a good excuse to raid comics for some ideas as any to me :) But don't be afraid if it does hiccup! This is shoving you out your comfort zone yes but best excuse to practice while you have the chance :D
