Weird Al Yankovic is one of those people who almost never fails to make me laugh. Something about his timing, facial expressions, natural charm, and even his work ethic just add up to exactly what my id wants in an actor to make me laugh.

Here's something that Christopher Chu (lead singer of Morning Benders/Pop ETC.) said about liking pop music. I think it applies a little to the conversation about guilty pleasures in general.

"Totally. I feel like there’s this weird divide because everyone loves pop music but there’s still a hesitancy in indie communities or subcultures where people are still afraid to admit that they like pop music - or they put a disclaimer on it like, “Yeah, I like that Katy Perry song because it’s catchy.” It’s not a legitimately good song, they just like it because it’s “catchy.” I don’t like making distinctions like that. When I hear something and I like it then that means it’s good. I don’t believe in guilty pleasures. If there’s something that hits me on any level then it’s worthwhile."

i wish i saw this movie when i tried to watch UHF.

the weird humor made me wince instead of laugh. i only made it about 20 minutes in before i had to stop. idk. i might have waited too long to watch it.

when i was 12 weird al was my favorite. used to annoy the hell out of the other people on my bus to school every morning because my friends and i would be sitting in the back singing his songs super loud. it was a great time.

but for whatever reason i didn't get around to UHF until a couple of years ago.

It's hard to say if I would have the same reaction watching it as an adult. It's so ingrained in my humor now that it would be impossible to separate that younger experience. I feel like the reaction you had might have been the same one I would have had toward The Muppet Movie if I hadn't been as invested via nostalgia. I don't know if I could ever find a way to hate this movie though. Too much Weird Al in my childhood. I also have a similar experience with his music. I memorized all of the lyrics to "Albuquerque", his 11-minute opus, and would give full performances of it in the van on youth trips when I still went to church. Is it any wonder I didn't have my first kiss until I was 18?

also wanted to mention that i had almost an identical reaction to the actual muppet movie, which i tried to watch for the first time a bit ago and only made it half an hour into.
