Artist Beware: Baasil

Oct 25, 2018 17:48

I shall begin this with a little warning. I was uninformed about the actual stipulations of Paypal; I have always thought it was only 60 days, and not 120 days for buyer protection. With that said I was a bit assertive to this commissioned person. I thought my time was running out and dry, but this could have easily been resolved with some ( Read more... )

This is a weird post, because it absolutely didn't have to get this bad. It's a lesson in how to not escalate a situation with a client. Like why didn't the artist keep track of their commissions? Why didn't they correct you? If the art was done, then why not respond with "I'm sorry with all the trouble. It's actually done (link to image). If you'd still like a refund we can work it out."

It's just a whole lot of ????

I agree too much, I was already in the wrong with the whole date thing... thinking I had less days than I had. If they had corrected me or comforted me letting me know I had more days I'd of not been freaking out as much as I had been. Just wanted to protect my dollar.

Chargeback period for PayPal is actually 180 days, not 60 or 120.

That is a HARD limit, however, I'm currently dealing with a scamming situation and PayPal has absolutely no mercy once you are past that date. If you go to the actual transaction in your PayPal activity history, it will tell you the date you have to file a chargeback, too.

I really don't see you as being out of line at all in this transaction, regardless of what PayPal's limit is. I have run into this before and it's pretty infuriating - you get an in-stream sketch, artist quits before they get to yours (that's fine, things happen), but instead of starting off the next stream sketch with yours, you get shoved to the back of the regular queue, which is kinda what seems like happened here. And the hostility from the artist is completely unwarranted.

I was wrong and as stated in the start I thought it was a hard 60 days for some reason, and know once out of that area you are out of the protection. That's all I was after to be honest, protecting my consumer rights.

Wow, that behavior. :(

I commissioned them in August for a dynamic sketch and actually posted about it in the August positive reviews post. I had my art within two days of ordering so I never had to bring something like this up or anything.

Won't be a returning customer after seeing this, though.

It's really a shame, they seemed like a really great person. We had a good initial meetup in stream, but after being direct things soured. I think the person directly before me had a better interaction.

So if it was completed, why not just... deliver it? And further, why make such a fuss about the refund when the artist could just go back into their payment history, find the payment and refund directly the amount given? Very strange.

Speaking for the minds that are really, really dishonest:

If they do a refund that way they can't cancel it.

If they send it as a payment the chargeback period on the original payment runs out before it does for the 'refund'. So once the payment's original time is up they challenge the 'refund' and there's nothing the customer can do.

That was my fear and it's why I ended up refunding them myself. Something seemed off, and didn't want a vengeful charge back from themselves down the line. All I wanted was my funds back. With how they acted with me I lost faith. Didn't feel right taking over-payment, and having them bad mouth me.

I'd like to think my only fault is being overly blunt/direct with them, but that's up to public opinion as every message is out there.

Yeah, I've wondered about that sort of thing in the past. If an artist sends a refund outside of the refund option, maybe because it was too long ago, would it be better to have it sent as friends and family to avoid the chargeback despite the fact that it was originally a business transaction?

Hi there, I havent read through the entire beware yet but I wanted to let you know that this user has several other posts about them under another name; Heml0cke/Momo/Orange.Pekoe/Phaet/Phae-et/Phae_go/momochi/Momochiismagic/Momoismagic/

https://artists-beware.livejournal.com/tag/artist-phaet%2Fheml0cke%2Forange.pekoe

I remember them changing to their now username Baasil/SpicyBaasil after a lot of the previous bewares came up. I'm sad to see they're still up to their old ways. >:

Thank you for this info. That explains a lot with how they reacted to me! I was like wtf most artist will seek to rectify the situation easily without this. Most artists know concrete dates of when refund/charge-backs are due/can be done. I feel they will shed their skin again and move on yet again.

I just wanted it to be known my interaction with them, and leave it at at that.

Yeah this all seems par the course for how they handle things like this, almost eerily similar to my own interaction with them so long ago. You might want to ask the mods to add some of the previous usernames to the tags as well. This artist is no stranger to changing usernames over and over it's just sad to see this happening again. I'm really sorry you were met with such hostility and so many excuses but i'm so so glad you got your refund!

I am very new here and do not know how to contact the mods, but would be very appreciative of them tagging their previous usernames. I feel like they will just shed this username within the month/week.

I did get a refund, but I sent all back because I did not/do not trust them.
