A couple of days ago, My Sweetie and I did some much-needed outdoor-work. First, he needed to climb up onto the roof and re-attach an eavestrough that has been hanging off at a jaunty angle for... a long time. I had to hold the ladder for him to get up there, and then just stay outside and keep an ear out, so I could call 911 if he fell off the ( Read more... )

About the weeds: dang! She probably got them from her garden, or someone else's garden, rather than a garden center. We had that problem about 15 years ago in Sherwood Park; everyone and their dog was planting this _gorgeous_ flower. Purple loosestrife. Apparently a highly invasive, toxic weed... But that's still so sad for your garden!!!

Not suggesting this for your perennial garden, but if you ever have a patch where the grass won't grow and the thistles/dandelions/quack grass are taking over, try mint. It grows roots worse than quack grass, but it's not technically a weed, it smells nice, and you can use it in your kitchen. *g* (we've done that in a patch of our back yard that the landlord won't ever spend the money to fix, and that's practically begging for the neighbour's garden of dandelions and thistles to take over...)

Also, yay about the green silk bridesmaid dress! :)

I think dandelions are not included because they are not toxic to livestock, and do not completely crowd out all grass. If you read some of the city stuff on weeds, the descriptions of the noxious ones are very big on what sorts of farm or wild animals they are toxic to. The thing I don't get is why we can't still use some of the fairly safe and quickly breaking down herbicides like Roundup anymore. It sucks.

I'm glad you guys were able to solve the fridge problem quickly. I wish I understood why mine was so f'ing noisy all the time. I'm actually going to pull it out and investigate.

Congrats on being a bridesmaid! :)
