So say you're a detective in the police force. You're investigating a missing person. One day someone contacts you and tells you that because they are psychic, they know that the person is dead, how and when they died, and can furnish not only a description of the location that the body can be found, but also a description of the murderer ( Read more... )

Unless they have an alibi, they should be.

Is this anecdotal to actual real life stupidity on the part of a police force?

There's been more than one case where said "psychic" has indeed been found to have been at least complicit.

If their alibi and background completely checked out, then you cannot consider them suspects in a murder, but of course aiding and abetting could still be on the cards.

The thing is, I believe there are people with talents that could be called supernatural, etc. I just believe those people don't come forward to make money off somebody else's grief. I assume the psychic wants the reward for the missing person?

Greed is not really something that makes you psychic though, well unless you are really good at smelling money far, far away

Well, I would say if they could actually provide a description of the location of the body, they'd definitely be at least a little bit suspect.

Off course, no psychic has ever been able to actually do that, so it's rather hypothetical. If I were a police detective in such a situation, I would probably just ignore anything a self-professed psychic had to say about it.
