crack_van's small fandoms month featuring Inception

Dec 02, 2011 13:15

This is a slightly cheeky request to help out the reccer covering Inception for this month on the recommendation community crack_van, both with reccs and with the fandom overview that's been written.

Sadly an anon has already posted an attack making accusations of slash bias and while the author admits this is her preference and asks for help in improving ( Read more... )

i`ve read and it`s undeniable that the reccer showed bias for A/E. there's a whole wall of text for explaining the slash pairing but only 2 or 3 sentences to sum up all the other pairings. If anything Dom/Mal is the most canon of all the pairings and every other pairing is based on speculation on the fandom's part. No pairing is more viable than the others. I just wish the reccer would've clarified that they are primarily A/E shippers. The reccer had the option to tone down favouritisms and just write an overview of the fandom as whole. If not, then clarifications are in order. There's so much more to this fandom than this one pairing and I feel that the reccer should've explored all the other aspects of the fandom or should have at least a non-biased knowledge of the fandom.

I agree with you on almost everything you've said. There's no denying that Ariadne/Arthur is the most popular het 'ship and the second only to Arthur/Eames in terms of its popularity. Its omission was a surprise, but the author is willing to accept help and comments on it ( ... )

Given the mod response, I'm not terribly invested in doing much at all.

I hadn't seen that, I admit. Wow, that is a surprise. In the light of that it might be better that this post be deleted, since there doesn't seem to be much point banging heads other than mine off a brick wall. My apologies for not realising sooner.

Hmmm. Just read this.

I don't think the author, despite the mod's pretty militant attitude, would be adverse to recommendations.

It's true what Eva said above though. You can't be so skewed and then say "it's an overview of the fandom" when you don't know all of the fandom. Hopefully they're open enough to continue with accepting other views and making the post a more well-rounded view.

I honestly and truly hope that you are right: I think most of us try to act with the best intentions (that was certainly my intention in bringing this to the comm.) I hope this doesn't lead to drama of any kind, and that what's been said is treated in the spirit in which it was intended and becomes part of a more rounded overview. I admire your honesty and integrity in this <3

Ugghhh I'm not into fandom drama. I have commented and left some suggestions. The author can take them or not. IDC. It's up to me to represent my ship and I have.

Thank you, it was kind of you and I'm touched and flattered that you recommended me. I really hope that there are no repercussions on you for posting. I'm considering removing this post since I didn't put it here to cause any drama or wank, and with hindsight it seems that might inevitably be the case and I really, really don't want to involve any of you in that. I really hope there are none and I thank you very, very much.

No problem. It's good to see this ship still sails! I think people from our side of the camp have been passionate but generally responsible and polite except for that one anon post. (And they really did have a good point, IMO.) Looks like the issue there has resolved itself. It's up to you if you feel it may get upsetting though.

It does, even after a year plus! That's great, right? I'm glad that we've been so well represented in this by people as articulate, enthusiastic and keen as yourself (and we did have a point, but we got it resolved without ranting or insulting people.) I wobbled a bit, but as long as the wank doesn't come back to haunt us, I'm good <3 Thank you!

i would've been game about helping to improve it but i have a sneaking suspicion the reccer's aren't as open-minded as i hoped. i've read the mod response, too, and i don't feel like we should be worrying ourselves about it. Like venus_ice said there's too much drama. We are still part of the fandom and the Inception fandom is still going strong, we don't have to fight each other on which pairing is the best. I understand you wanted to present the fandom in an unbiased way and most of the A/A pairing resonate with that because Inception is more than A/E or any other pairing. This community prefers A/A the most and let's focus our attention on supporting our favourite ship and the fandom as a whole. We all get along in this community, don't we? :)

I hope so- our tastes may differ but I think we're pretty much universally behind the 'ship and the fandom as a whole. I don't think anyone wants a fight or a lot of drama, and I certainly didn't post here with the intention of bringing one either here or there (although I was worried for a while that that might be the case and felt pretty terrible about it) I did genuinely feel for that anon who got angry, because sometimes the temptation to shout "hey! We're right over here, you know!" Is huge; I felt a lot of agreement for their point but just couldn't agree with their tone or language: Two wrongs and all that. But yes, I think we did the best we could and stayed polite, civil and enthusiastic for the whole fandom as well as A/A- which is really what matters <3

Thanks for letting us know! It seems like the author knows they messed up and is trying to make the overview more inclusive of fandom as a whole in addition to A/A.

You're welcome, and I agree- the writer seems open to suggestions, despite the ranty anon attack. Also very much kudos to you for your article being included in the overview; recognition well deserved I feel.
