Why the hell did I work so hard in school, try so hard to do well in all of my classes, if my grades can't even get me into the colleges I'm applying to? Why did I waste so much time on that crap?

The good thing, though, is that you did get accepted to SUNY Albany, which is not exactly a bad school. You can go anywhere from there, and worst case scenario, if you hate it, it's a hell of a lot easier to transfer than it is to get in as a freshman.
I love you and I promise this will be okay. Last year, I completely flunked the SATs and was pretty sure I was going to have to kill myself. But I survived. You will, too, because you are far cooler than I am and also have more money.
As a side note, I still think you should go to SUNY Binghamton if you get accepted, so that you're closer to me, but I will forgive you no matter what.
Cheer up, babe. It's going to be okay. < ( ... )

Yeah, I figure it's probably something like that too. That, and I applied to a lot of really small colleges. Amherst, for example, had nearly 9,000 applicants for an incoming class of under 500. Wesleyan I thought I might've had a better chance at, but... well, it doesn't matter now.
The thing is though, I don't really feel that... sad, or upset over it. I just feel... frozen, and apathetic. And... mild confusion over why I cared so much before. Why I just sat on my bed, staring into space, just constantly checking my e-mail because I knew I was going to hear back from them for about an hour and a half today. I don't feel... anything about it, and that scares me more than I feel anything else about not having gotten into the majority of the colleges on my list.
But at least I did get into UAlbany. I'm also glad that that was the decision I got first- I would be flipping so many shits if I just got all those denials before an acceptance...
But thanks. <3

This is not a judgment of your capabilities or your intelligence. I know a lot of people who are trying to get into college and it's just really hard right now. I have friends who are just like you who are looking to get into grad school, but were turned down by every single school.
So chin up - you did get one approval, and you're still waiting on two. There are a lot of people out there who don't even get that. So all of your hard work? No, it didn't go to waste. The reason why you got that one yes is BECAUSE you worked hard. ♥
