I'd like to get some recommendations for reading materials. I'm looking for works that have had a profound impact on your life and the way you experience it and/or touched you in some way. I'm trying to reprioritize my life, and I feel like quiet time and good literature will help.

Cliché as some may find it, I recommend The Fountainhead.

I am re-reading Richard Bach's books starting with Illusions: Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah. I remembered it as changing the way I thought about things, but after reading it again, I wasn't too impressed. I'm going to read his other books again as well.

A book that I've been wanting to read but haven't had the time is Jane Goodall's book on food on this planet, and I want to read it for the same reason you are calling for literature.....in a hope that it will help me solidify the choices I'm making in that arena.

the alchemist. really any paulo coelho (i'm betting you've read many of these)

the amazing adventures of kavalier and clay is an all-time favorite, although perhaps not *moving* in the sense you're looking for.

desikachar's "the heart of yoga" is beautiful...not fiction, obviously.

"bird by bird" by ann lamott...about writing, but very applicable to singing/performing/creating in general.

"when things fall apart" by pema chodron.

i'm sure there's many, many more...i'll have to scan my bookshelves this evening.

The ones that spring to mind:

The Diamond Cutter by Geshe Michael Roach

Quirkyalone: A Manifesto for Uncompromising Romantics by Sasha Cohen

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield

Cutting the Ties that Bind by Phyllis Crystal (extremely New Age)

21 Dog Years by Mike Daisey

The Incredible Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera
