After two months of the delays, hiccups and rescheduling I now know to expect from any gaming, I got the team back together for an Exile Empire session before I head off to the US - and an epic, tragic session it was.

Details behind the cut.

It came down to the wire. Most (all?) of us were laid-low with negative HPs, and most of us had it happen on several occasions during that epic, climactic battle.
If I was playing a downright evil character, I'd have released the prisoners to generate chaos and reduce the overall proportion of target area that I cared about. But I think not even Ballast would have stooped to that level of practicality. ;)

Had some unlucky dice-rolls, and drained our hard-hitting magic in the opening scene in the encounter with the mutant sea serpent.

Overall, some deaths are random, though I don't like to see it happen without meaning. So, I hope both deaths, and their consequences, are worked into future plots somehow...and that any resurrections come at a plottian price. :)

It hurts when you underestimate me like that. ;-)

I'm so sorry I missed such a balls-out epic session, particularly given the impact it's going to have on the power dynamic in the party once we hit Stormreach.

It's a definite shame to have their stories cut short, but I'm imagining that what happens next will be just as awesome coming from them. I'm definitely going to miss being able to poke Alarich with a stick, but this confirms what Ballast suspected about Jin (mostly through ignorance) - that it was only a matter of time before she bit it.
