Tolkien fic -- In the Halls of Nienna

This takes place about the same time as The Hobbit, in the Uttermost West.

Celebrimbor, Celebrian

Sometimes it's necessary to take a hammer to a theological dilemma....

Oh, fascinating. Good to see Celebrian as someone other than a passive victim, which seems unlikely given who she was. What an interesting idea that her ordeal has made her determined to try and heal the tortured elves who became orcs.

I've always had a hard time getting a handle on Celebrian -- she really doesn't have much personality. This is the first time I've written her, and I was really pleased with how it came out. I can see that she needs this as a purpose.

Oh, wow. I never thought about that at all, about what happens to Orcs, but I love the idea of someone trying to do something about it. (And I love that in the Tolkienverse goodness and heroism don't have to stop at death.) I usually stay away from afterlife fic, but maybe because I've never really thought much about Celebrian or Celebrimbor when they were living, what we see of them here, starting to heal, really works for me.

I'm glad it works for you. I haven't written anything in Valinor before either, but this just made sense to me.

Oh, interesting! I never thought of where the orcs go after death.

Oh God. Oh GOD. Celebrimbor breaks my heart in every incarnation and I wanted to cry over him here, because yes, it it hard to imagine what state he would be in, after. I also love your take on Celebrian who makes a lot more sense to me here than she does as a passive victim, and it is good to imagine that these two traumatized people could find a purpose together and begin to heal.

Yes, I did wonder what happens to orcs when they die, but never found an answer. I really like your solution. And the idea that this is a fate that Celebrian and Celebrimbor only narrowly escaped (meaning, in Celebrimbor's case, that it could have been even worse)... *shudders*

What a great story.
