I'm really just *tolerating* lol this Contemporary Art course that I'm taking at the moment (it would be 'art history', but since much of it is current, the term would be an oxymoron ;p). Being introduced to some artists makes it worth it though, and I thought some of ya'll would appreciate the wonder of Fred Tomaselli ( Read more... )

Time is a Cartesian illusion. All has occurred hence all is history.

Also, for me, my contemporary art course started with De Kooning and up so I think contemporary is just aiming for roughly the within 100 years of the current year.

I was wondering who would be a smartass and challenge my claim of it not being art history, and I'm glad I kept in this claim so that you would retort wittily ;)

Our class is from WWII onwards. I enjoy Hans Hoffmann more than De Kooning. I am biased towards the Abstract Expressionists. Apparently I shouldn't be since it exults the "deliberate MASCULINE brushstroke" *rolls eyes*

Any arguments about the masculinity of the Abstract Expressionists is pretty much shut down with Carolee Schneeman

I love these. Especially the beaded tree and the birds.

I thought I had commented on this weeks ago but then realised that I never did... o_O

My favourites are the bird pictures but I love all the details in "Abductor"... like the eyes, hands and other body parts. :D
