Photobucket Changes...

Jul 06, 2017 21:22

Today, I just received an email from Photobucket that they are now restricting 3rd party hosting. I think just about every icon and other graphics I have posted here over the years are hosted on Photobucket. In order to re-enable the hosting, I would have to pay into a yearly plan costing $399.99usd ($39.99usd per month), which I am unable to ( Read more... )

I just discovered the same. I've been moaning about photobucket for a while and looking into new image hosting sites. I think I may go with smugmug who used to host my Gerry gallery. That's still £50 a year or thereabouts but I think that's probably my best option. I don't have enougrh space here for all my images as I need it for forum use as well as livejournal. (And I'd gradually been moving everything out of lj to photobucket anyway so it will link on dreamwidth should lj ever go belly up.

I started downloading folders from photobucket to my laptop and storing the zips on an external hard drive for the moment. So far I was only able to download 4 folders of icons that I did for challenges before photobucket started acting up and stopped working properly. I have a permanent LJ account, Raven bought it for me during one of the big sales way back in '07 or '08, so actually I have 1tb of storage here and I've only actually used less than 200mb, so I'm probably going to upload the icons and graphics in the scrapbook here and fix the posts in this JL. I should look at Dreamwidth too, really, and just start with moving/coping things over there for "just incase".

I've been using photobucket since at least 2006. I think it was Angela that recommend it to me so I can host and post icons for the challenges, then I made a graphics journal and it kinda went from there. I've got around 200 photos, icons, graphics, etc uploaded on photobucket, but I've only used about 6% of the storage there.

I have most of mine downloaded but I used photobucket to link images to a writing forum. It's only about 1gb of stuff but it's nearly 2000 images I'll have to move and then re-link in the forum. Ugh...

It may well have been Angela who told me about photobucket too. I've had mine since around then.

Well, this kinda sucks. I went to create an acct on Dreamwidth and their anti-spam measure question is "What number is 4th in the series eighteen, 28, one, 38 and 19?" and I haven't the slightest idea what the answer is. I am not a number person and anything that resembles math in a non-crafting (crochet, knit, etc.) way, or if I am unable to use a simple calculator to get an answer, confounds me. I even tried googling it without any luck.

Back to the OP, myself and one other person I know has been hit by the photobucket thing this weekend. If you don't pay, brace yourself, you're up next I expect.

Frankly, I'm not sure I can be bothered doing much about it, as LJ looks to be in its death throes, and almost everywhere I've ever posted graphics to is now tumbleweed... still, if anyone has any idea of free places we could move stuff to, do share.

Oh, I've been hit by photobucket. All of the pics, graphics and gifs I've hosted there to post elsewhere has all been blocked. Every single one of my icons and graphics in posts on this journal are unavailable. I've been getting emails to "upgrade" ever since the first one came telling me that 3rd party hosting/linking have been disabled. I've been gradually downloading albums from photobucket to my laptop and I've been debated about deleting my photobucket once I get everything downloaded, or I may just use it for storage only. Not sure yet, as I've had it for about 10-11 years now ( ... )

I feel for you.

(Ps, tumbleweed, as in nobody comes here anymore).

Thank you.

Ah, ok. Periodically, I'll come by here and check things out. I know that my crochet journal gets hits from google searches and my community icon_textures still gets posted to by members, but, yeah, not much else.
