Title: Plenty Author: arrow00 Pairing: Fraser/RayK Rating: G Wordcount: 750 Categories: futurefic Notes: A totally, totally belated birthday snippet for nos4a2no9. Sorry, Nos! Started writing it but life bit me in the ass.
I just...wow. WOW. Hon, this is the best birthday present anyone could have given me. I've been a little down lately about my waning enthusiasm for due South stories, because I feel like I keep reading the same stuff over and over again. The characters seem oddly static, and I've been longing for stories that tackle Fraser's childhood or what life is like for the Boys many, many years after they sled off into the sunrise together. And this is exactly what I needed to read.
You've articulated something really powerful with this knockout of a short story: these characters aren't just static cut-outs. Their lives shift, and change, and grow. They get better. They figure things out. And even though it's not an easy journey, Fraser and Ray walk that path together

aw, babe. I knew (I don't know how) that you might like a future story. and yeah, there are so many possibilities there, we don't have to just get stuck in one time frame or with one snapshot of these guys. it's a little hard to break out of it, but it was easy when I tried to think of what you might like.
so glad you enjoyed it. ::♥ you::
I went and volunteered for the OTW and it's been sucking up a lot of my free time, so I haven't been reading; and reading, I've always found, inspires me to write. but hopefully I'll have more time soon. I've missed you tons.
Well, my art homework, actually, but the magical thing is, said homework is mostly RayK! Fannish stuff for college credit. Yay! I gotta sleep now, though. It's better to be rested and have steady hands for this next part. However, there is also something on my desk at the moment that I think might be very cool. It's another scribble, but this time in colored pencil, and it's quite possibly a little portrait of Teen!Ray!Kowalski. :) Was just kind of messing around with some colored pencils on a scrap of black matboard, kind of testing what I could do with the pencils and resting from my adventures in mat-cutting (which did not go particularly well). And I had a DS publicity photo in which he looks so young, but it's tiny and details are hard to see, so I just, I dunno, drew what wanted to be there, and it looks like Teen!RayK. :) Maybe useful as a story illo sometime. (Gosh, he's not finished, but colored pencil is an amazing medium. Already I want to pinch his little CHEEK. Hee

I love stories about the boys grown old and wise. And I'm surprised how good it feels to recognise that Victoria might also have grown older and wiser.
Thanks so much, miss_zedem. I was imagining them outside in late summer, birds and soft wind and warm sunlight, a shared pot between them and maybe some coffee-flavored kisses. :)

That's the neatest post-mortem, no pun intended, on Victoria that I've ever seen. Just amazing!
