Kaara, your short pieces are always quite good in my opinion because you're able to keep a good focus and bring a lot out in a few words. It's something that is not that easy for a lot of people.

I think if you are able to keep that focus over a longer piece you would have something quite awesome. (A sort of writing challenge from me...)

Hate to nitpick, but here - He starts smoking as they closes the casket, and fires up the pyre. - the "closes" should be "close".
