Summary: Response to the Arthur100 prompt: sun.
Sunlight breaks through the slit in the curtains, thin and frail as an ebbing tide. Arthur watches the shadows play on Merlin’s angular face as he shifts slightly, turning his face into the sun. His bed is unmade, the sheets tangled around them and in the perfect silence before Camelot comes to life, he can’t quite bring himself to wake the boy beside him. Merlin’s skin is pale as the walls of the castle itself; his eyelids flutter slightly as he dreams and, momentarily, Arthur thinks he sees the gold of the sun reflected curiously in the normally blue eyes.
